Gilliam, who died in 2000, played at Tennessee State University from 1968-71 where he broke every major passing record at the school, as well as other black college records and was an All-American in 1970 and 71.
Gilliam was drafted by the Steelers in the 11th round in 1972, and started the 1974 and part of the 1975 season.
The Black College Football Hall of Fame’s Fourth Annual Enshrinement Ceremony will take place on February 16 in Atlanta, and is presented by the Atlanta Falcons.
Gilliam will be inducted along with Elvin Bethea, Charles Brackins, Ken Houston, Charlie Joiner, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Larry Little, Shannon Sharpe, Jackie Slater, John Merritt, and Charles Neal.
