Steelers make a wish come true

Posted by Teresa Varley on November 15, 2013 – 9:27 pm

When Steelers practice ended and Ben Roethlisberger walked over to 15-year old Jessica Converse, you could just feel the excitement. Because for Converse, the wish she made almost a year ago, was coming true. And her smile was as bright as can be.

Converse is visually and hearing impaired, considered legally blind and deaf, and also suffers from an enlarged heart, high blood pressure and is diabetic. She was the Steelers guest at practice through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, meeting Roethlisberger and his teammates.

“I am just so glad she was able to get her wish with all of the different problems she has,” said her mother, Michelle Converse. “She has been waiting for this and it was so overwhelming and exciting for all of us.

“When Ben came over and met her, it was the most awesome thing I ever saw. I got overwhelmed when they all came up around her.”

This — This is what Steelers football is about!

I have been a Steelers fan since the 1994/95 season, when I was 9. In the 18 years, that have followed, I have learned so many lessons in life by the way my football team has dictated their dispositions on, and off of the field.

From the Rooney’s to my favorite players, I have learned that Compassion, Passion, hard work, will, and determination were the keys to life.

Thank you Pittsburgh. For continuing to teach me what remains important. We might not be on top of the game this year, but we are on top where it counts! Keep shaping the minds of generations to come, guys!

    Steel City Pride!

Win or loose, the steelers players, staff and ownership is still the class of the NFL.
