Steelers chairman Dan Rooney is back in Pittsburgh after stepping down as the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, and on Thursday, Dec. 20, it was proclaimed Ambassador Daniel M. Rooney Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
Rooney was presented a proclamation by Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl at a ceremony at the City-County Building.
The proclamation honored Rooney for what he has done in Ireland, developing a strong relationship between the two countries, as well as what he has done for the Pittsburgh community.
“I want to thank you for making this presentation,” said Rooney. “I found Ireland to be a great place. The people there are similar to Pittsburghers, they are friendly and they try to help. Having the opportunity to represent President (Barack) Obama and our country was a great honor and I really enjoyed being there and accomplished a lot of things. It was something special.”
