DeCastro feels good after practicing

Posted by Teresa Varley on November 21, 2012 – 4:15 pm

Guard David DeCastro, who is on injured reserve/designated for return, returned to practice on Wednesday for the first time since he injured his knee against the Buffalo Bills in the preseason.

DeCastro said it felt good running and was happy to be back in football mode.
“It went well,” said DeCastro after practice. “I feel like it’s been a long, long time. I have been doing stuff with the assistant strength coach, football stuff but nothing like going against NFL players.”

The Steelers have 21 days from now to determine if DeCastro will be activated or placed on injured reserve, but he has not placed any timetable on a return or if he will be back on the field this season.

“I am just trying to come out every day and get better, get healthier,” said DeCastro. “There is some room to improve and get strength back and endurance. I didn’t have any expectations. I just was going in to see how it felt and it felt strong.

“I am going to control what I can control. I want to get healthier and stronger and get myself in the best position to play if I need to. I think just being healthy and in good shape says a lot.”

While DeCastro did practice on Wednesday, six others didn’t including WR Jerricho Cotchery (ribs), T Marcus Gilbert (ankle), DE Evander Hood (back), QB Byron Leftwich (ribs), S Troy Polamalu (calf), and QB Ben Roethlisberger (right shoulder). Receiver Antonio Brown (ankle) was limited in practice while S Will Allen (shoulder), RB Isaac Redman (concussion), and LB Stevenson Sylvester (hamstring) were full participants.

Just be 100% before making a return. Playing at less than that will not be to your advantage and could lead to more problems.

Personally I think it would be better to let him sit out the rest of the season. Work on making sure its 100%. We already have enough accident prone players on the team (Mendenhall, Troy, Willie…)

Was excited to hear the news that BIG D is returning back to the practice field today. It sure would be great to see our key guys back and playihg at full strenght i really think and believe this team can win the super bowl this year if we can be healthy as a team, so BIG D get yourself 100 % healty before you return so we can make another run at our 7th super bowl trophy. ”GO STEELERS”

David, I live in West Seattle. During the Off Season we should hang out. The locals here don’t like Steelers’ Fans. Maybe you can help me change their minds about our squad, lol!

To all the injured players-get healthy and come back,we need you.
To all the players who are banged up but practicing-keep up the work, rest and get ready.
To the rest of the team and to the players who now have the opportunity to step up and make plays……….MAKE THEM!!!!!!!. Continue the black and gold winnig tradition anf superbowl appearences.Play hard, smart, take chances at times, read the qb’s eyes and go for the interception like they do to us. and play non-stop for 60 minutes.SEE U IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE.THE DIVISION IS STILL WITHIN REACH,GRAB IT AND DON’T LET GO!!!!!!!
