Leftwich is ready to roll

Posted by Teresa Varley on November 16, 2012 – 2:23 pm

Quarterback Byron Leftwich said he is ready to roll on Sunday night against the Ravens after getting in three solid days of practice this week.

“I feel good,” said Leftwich. “I feel like I got more reps with the guys. I feel as though I am ready to roll. This is our last big day and now it’s time to do what you have to do and get ready to roll Sunday night.”

Leftwich is excited about the opportunity to start for the injured Ben Roethlisberger, and knows that the closer it gets to game time the more amped up he will be.

“The butterflies will come around Sunday, but that is a good thing,” said Leftwich. “I am excited. We all understand the importance of this football game. We are going to do what we have to do and try to get one more point than them.”

The Steelers will be without wide receiver Antonio Brown (ankle), tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle), safety Troy Polamalu (calf), and Roethlisberger (right shoulder), but there is good news as well.

Running back Rashard Mendenhall, who practiced all week, is listed as probable and is expected to play.

“It’s been feeling good,” said Mendenhall. “I will just continue to grow off of that. We are just taking it a day at a time.”

Mendenhall expects the running backs to share playing time on Sunday night, and said that he doesn’t feel at all limited in what he can do.

“I wouldn’t step out there if that was the case,” said Mendenhall. “I feel good where I am. I want to continue to build on that and see what happens.”

Fellow running back Isaac Redman likes having all three backs, himself, Mendenhall and Jonathan Dwyer healthy, especially for such a key AFC North match-up.

“I think all three of us are going to play and keep it rolling and keep a fresh running back out there all of time,” said Redman. “We are going to try to pound them and keep a fresh running back out there.”

Linebacker Stevenson Sylvester (hamstring) is questionable for the game, while cornerback Curtis Brown (quadriceps), safety Ryan Clark (concussion), defensive end Brett Keisel (shoulder), tackle Max Starks (ankle) and cornerback Ike Taylor (illness) are all probable.

Good luck to all of you, O Guys, both protecting & scoring for QB Byron “1 more point than them (Ravens)” this Sunday night! Hurrah!

Sorry to hear about Big Ben’s (Troy too) injury. We lost Ray L . and several others to injuries. Never want to wish that on anyone/ any team. I’m from Balto. but live in Virginia (an old Balto. Colt fan) who now roots (Hard Core) for the Raven’s. Byron always gives the Ravens; to fit! I’ll cuss if the Raven’s lose, however may the better team win. When it’s all over, I’m rooting for the AFC North….the toughest division in the NFL. Hopefully, one of them will go all the way!!

PS: Love this new home site/page..it’s easy to navigate. Raven’s have an easy page/site too!!

It’s too bad that Ben got hurt last week.
In such a big game as Baltimore is, I’m certain he wish he could be in it.
With two of the best players for the Steelers out (Ben and Troy), it seems doubtful Pittsburgh will prevail over Baltimore
Also, Pittsburgh and Baltimore plays twice in 3 weeks.
Whoever drew up that in the schedule this year just was not thinking.
Any two teams in the division should not play twice that close together.
It’s too bad that sometimes injuries dictates who wins the division and move on in the playoffs to the Super Bowl.

In response to Mike O above : So glad to see a die-hard fan be fair and sportsman-like. As a die-hard Steelers fan I love to see the Ravens lose, but love the rivalry and do not like to see injuries. I would love to see Ray Lewis have a great year before he retires, but it may not be… May the best team win :D

Mike Tomlin has kept the integrity of the Steeler’s mantra: “No one person is bigger than the Steelers”. People aren’t giving the Steelers a chance because no one else practices this mantra. We have a defense and our offensive line has improved. we have a team and we will beat the Ravens.

This is such a pivotal game and to have Ben out is definitely going to change things, but I believe the Steelers always adapt as will need be. I am a true believer that a quarterback alone a team does not make….all the players are imperative to getting the game won. Wish our injured guys were all back in the game, that would be amazing. Hang in there and I wish for no further injuries for either side. GO STEELERS!

Let the facts speak for themselves…..there is no other team in the whole history of the NFL to outrank the steelers in superbowl titles!!!!!! ..how can anyone dispute irrefutable evidence like THAT?????…. suffice to say, the Pittsburgh Steelers take playing football to a ” WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL”…..time after time after time….i am proud to be born and bred in steeler country…….GOOOO STEELERS…!!!!!!!!

Fact: no other team in NFL history holds more superbowl titles than the steelers…..the evidence is IRREFUTABLE…they take playing football to a whole “different level”…proud to be a pittsburgh native..GO STEELERS!!
