Wolfley honored in his hometown

Former Steelers guard Craig Wolfley, who played for the team from 1980-89, was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
Wolfley, who was born in Buffalo, New York, was a co-captain of the Orchard Park High School team before going on to play at Syracuse University.
Wolfley was inducted along with his brother Ron Wolfley, who played seven seasons in the NFL and was a four-time Pro Bowl special team’s selection.
“It’s with my brother so it’s so very special,” said Wolfley. “It’s overwhelming. I remember as a little guy coming up through the ranks of football you wanted to do something special and then you did something that somebody say, hey, we are going to honor you.”
Wolfley, who is the sideline reporter for the Steelers radio network, said being honored in the place where he started playing football was really special.
“It’s the people you grew up with in the Western New York area,” said Wolfley. “They were so kind to me as I grew up and as a young man wanting to excel and do what I could do in the world of sports.
“All you did was play for the fun of it, for the enjoyment of it. You never looked down the road. It caught me by surprise when they called. To be recognized by them with my brother is wonderful. It’s hard to put into words.”

Craig,
You are a great person. You were an inspiration for my son when his father died in 1983 and you lived on our street. We still tell everyone Steeler fan in Florida what a big and caring heart you have. Not only as a great player but also as a person.
Congratulations to you.
