The Eagles defensive line, with their depth and the havoc they create for a quarterback, is getting a lot of attention in Pittsburgh this week and that is something Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward doesn’t mind at all. He knows that the Eagles line is a force to be reckoned with, but he also knows the Steelers defensive line is strong as well.
“We are just getting better,” said Heyward of the Steelers’ line. “I like to think we are under construction. We keep plugging along.
“Their defensive line rotates nine guys, we don’t have as many guys but I’d like to think we get the job done.”
The Steelers defensive line will have their hands full this week keeping pressure on Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, and is going to need everyone working together to get the job done.
“He is a really good passer,” said Heyward. “It doesn’t take a lot of effort for him to throw the ball. And when he has time he is successful and when he doesn’t have time, he makes plays with his feet.
“There are a lot of quarterbacks that are throwers first, and he is a thrower, but he has that element of running the ball and creating plays with his feet and extending plays. He is going to be tough but we have to get him on the ground.”
The defense can’t just focus on Vick, though. Eagles’ running back LeSean McCoy, who played at the University of Pittsburgh, has 384 yards rushing this season, almost twice as much as the Steelers’ ground game has amassed.
“He has some sick cuts already this year,” said Heyward. “It’s going to take a team effort. It’s going to take 11 guys going to the ball and we have to tackle this guy.”
