Lewis thinks Wallace will be at camp

Posted by Teresa Varley on July 26, 2012 – 7:07 am

Keenan Lewis came to camp as one of the top competitors for William Gay’s cornerback spot, but most of the questions coming his way were about his close friend and former high school teammate Mike Wallace.

Wallace has not signed the one-year tender the Steelers offered him and hasn’t reported to camp yet.

Lewis and Wallace worked out together in New Orleans all offseason and while he doesn’t know when Wallace will be there, he said he is optimistic he will be at camp.

“He’s planning on coming to camp. I’m pretty sure he’ll be here,” said Lewis. “He’s a football player. He loves playing the game. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to sit out. He worked this offseason.  He’s in shape and ready to go.

“He’s a football player. He loves doing what he does. I’m pretty sure it’s kind of tough not being here with the team. He’ll be here and ready to work. I don’t know where he is, I just know when he comes he will be ready.”

Lewis said he is looking forward to getting on the field and excited about the competition.

“I’m ready for camp,” said Lewis, who arrived in a Smart Car. “Whatever the coaches have planned for me I’m ready to take that next step and go with it.”

If he wants to be a team player he would be there!! I understand the money factor but he should look at all the people out there who live on 50,000 a year or less or that work in a hot dirty factory. He needs to look at the big picture!!! Go Steelers with or without him, Steelers won’t pay him the big money he wants next year so let him go if need be!!!

Not much empathy here for Mr.. Wallace. Had he passed Steeler history 101 his contract would have been completed and the new system would be second hand to him. I do hope he finds what he’s looking for, but I doubt it will be with the Steelers!

Mike man want you thinking! you lettling down your team mate’s and most of all us the fan’s. Didn’t you learn anything from Hines Ward how to be a stand up guy and want it means to put on the black and gold. We need you bro and your selfishness is hurting the team and breaken our hearts. This money thing is getting out of control for real, not just for you but all you athlete’s our asking for way to much money now and it got to stop. Do you think Swann or stallworth would hold out like your doing and they where much better then you. So get your head out of the clouds and report and let’s have a great season.
