Steelers Playoff Diary – 1/4

Posted by Teresa Varley on January 4, 2012 – 4:33 pm

The Steelers completed practice on Wednesday and five players did not participate at all including CB Cortez Allen (shoulder), LB James Harrison (toe), DE Brett Keisel (groin), RB Mewelde Moore (knee), and S Troy Polamalu (calf).

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) and center center Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) were both limited in practice.

A good sight was linebacker LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) has a full participant in practice along with guard Doug Legursky (shoulder).

Why is it that Tomlin will not use Jonathan Dwyer to offset the loss of Mendenhall. He is s strong, durable, smart runningback who ran the option at Georgia Tech, he can take the ball 25-30 times a Game without thinking twice. He is younger then Redman and bigger then Moore. For the last two seasons he has sat on the bench collecting his paycheck but not contributing to the Team. Now that Mendenhal is lost for the Playoffs, and possibly next year, this is the time to use all the talent on the Steelers’ Roster and incorporate a talented young Player into the offense. These are the types of adjustments Cowher made when he was in charge and why he was so successful. This is an opportunity for Tomlin to show his worth to the Steelers and their Fans.

The use of Dwyer will also lessen the load for the Offensive Line and Big Ben, since it is easier to run block then pass block. Using Dwyer takes away from Big Ben constantly dropping back to pass putting more pressure on the ankle, it also allows the Offensive Line to blow out the Denver Defensive Line down the field instead of keeping them off Big Ben in the backfield. Tomlin needs to utilize all the Assets on the Team, Dwyer can offer an ability the other runningbacks cannot. I am not implying that either Redman or Moore are not quality players but neither one can be used like Dwyer can, he is a terrific substitute for Mendenhall. GO STEELERS!!!
